Grandpa Gene's Workshop in the Rocky Mountains

About Us:
As a boy growing up on an Indiana farm in the 1940's, I played with many of the toys that you see here. After we retired, my wife and I bought a cabin in the Rocky Mountains and I moved my woodworking tools up there and set up my shop. In the move, I rediscovered my copy of American Folktoys and How to Make Them by Dick Schnacke, tried out a few plans, and before long Grandpa Gene's Workshop came into being. I started selling my toys at the
Boulder Farmers' Market Craft Fair and found that they were well-received by children and parents alike. At the craft fairs some folks speak with me about the memories the toys evoke and others make requests for toys they had played with when they were growing up. Some of the toys I make today are a result of those requests. I have found that playing with these toys links the generations, and hope you feel the same way. If any of this work brings back memories, I would love to hear from you at Gene@grandpagenes.com

Acrobat or Flip Jack $12--- Gently squeeze the bottom of the handles and watch the acrobat do all sorts of tricks.

Finger Top $3---A small wooden top, spun with the fingers, will balance and spin for a very long time.

Ball and Cup (traditional) $12--- The toy is centuries old. Simply flip the ball up and catch it in the cup. Playing the game developes hand-eye coordination and dexterity.

Ball and Cup (pipe) $12--- This toy is a variation of the traditional Ball and Cup with the difference being that the cup is set at right angles instead of on top of the handle. Opinions about which ball and cup is easier to master is equally divided.
